DURHAM, NC - Held to just 17% shooting from the field, the Iona College women's basketball team was defeated by #3/3 Duke 100-31 Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.  Freshman forward Joy Adams had six points to go along with a game high 10 rebounds and two steals.

Iona had two leads early in the contest, 3-2 after a trifecta by sophomore guard Aleesha Powell with 19:04 remaining and 5-4 after a layup by junior center Sabrina Jeridore with 16:54 remaining.

From there, the Blue Devils would go on a 14-0 run in just over three minutes, aided by six points each from Allison Vernerey and Chelsea Gray, to take a 13 point lead before senior guard Haley D'Angelo stopped the run with a three-pointer.

After Vernerey drained another jumper, Duke would go on a 22-1 run to pull ahead by 21 before Adams knocked down a jumper with 7:30 remaining in the first half.

Duke ended the half on a 27-7 run and took a 57-18 lead at the half after shooting 60.0% from the field in the first half, while Iona shot just 20.0%.

In the second half, Iona was held nearly seven minutes without a point before senior guard Diana Hubbard knocked down a three pointer, but by then Duke had pulled ahead by 53 at 74-21 before outscoring the Gaels 26-10 the rest of the way.

The Gaels were held to just 13 points in the second half, as the Blue Devils' length and size kept Iona from many easy looks throughout the game.  Adams and Hubbard each had six points to lead the Gaels, who had eight players in the scoring column.  Vernerey finished with 22 points for Duke, who had five players in double figures.

The Gaels look to get back on track Wednesday when they travel to Queens for a matchup with #20/18 St. John's.
