PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA - Sophomore 2B
Bobby Vitulano led the Iona College baseball team with three runs batted in and hit a game-tying triple in the eighth inning, but a walk-off single in the ninth allowed Michigan to take a 6-5 edge at Digital Domain Park on Sunday afternoon.
Junior SS Matt Kriss led the team with three hits and sophomores CF
Joe Torres and RF
Joe Smith each added an RBI.
Michigan scored three times in the first inning to put the Gaels in an early jam, but a single run in the second and two more in the fourth tied the contest for the Maroon and Gold. Smith doubled in the second to left field and then Vitulano scored Smith in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice. Torres then tied the game on single through the left side.
The Wolverines added two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead, until Vitulano's two-out two RBI triple in eighth once again tied the score for the designated visitors.
In the ninth, Will Drake knocked a single up the middle to give Michigan the 6-5 victory.
Iona will head back down south to take on Western Carolina March 2-4 in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
