AMBLER, PA – Senior IF
Chris Burke led Iona with four runs batted in and a home runs, as the Gaels scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat Temple 9-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Burke's three-run homer came in the first innings, as the Gaels led the game off with a pair of singles by senior OF
Joe Torres and freshman IF
Jimmy Guiliano.
Iona (3-10) added two more runs in the second and third innings, beginning an RBI double through the left side by Torres to score senior LF
Colin Lyall. Burke added his fourth RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field to score sophomore IF
Bobby Vitulano.
In the third, Iona added a pair of runs first on a sacrifice ground out by senior IF
Eric Capowski and then a fielder's choice by Vitulano to score sophomore OF
Joe Smith.
Temple (5-9) added two runs in the bottom of the third, but Iona held on to a 7-2 lead. The Owls added tow more in the seventh, but Iona increased the lead back to 9-4 with two runs in the eighth.
Junior IF Matt Kriss sent a two-RBI double up the middle in the eighth and scored senior C
James Beck and Guiliano.
Freshman LHP
John Nargoski got the win for the Gaels and picked up his second victory of the year.
Iona will head back home to New York to take on Stony Brook on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
