BALTIMORE, MD - Held to just 14 points and 23.7% shooting from the field in the second half, the Iona College women's basketball team fell to Loyola University Marland 64-43 Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena.

The Gaels' 43 point effort was their lowest scoring output since a 31 point showing at Duke and their lowest three point shooting performance of the season, connecting on just four of its 21 attempts from behind the arc.

The Greyhounds connected on four early shots and took an 8-2 lead with 16:37 on Alyssa Sutherland's second straight layup.  Iona countered with an 8-3 run of its own and trimmed the deficit to one, 11-10, on a layup by freshman forward Joy Adams with 11:55 remaining.

After Loyola countered with five straight points to take a 16-10 lead, Iona went a 12-4 run, aided by three points from freshman guard Aaliyah Robinson and sophomore guard Damika Martinez before a jumper by senior forward Jiya Dorcas-Eya evened the game at 20, and a layup by Adams with 3:39 left in the half put the Gaels ahead 22-20.

Iona would take a three point lead, 29-26, on a jumper by sophomore guard Aleesha Powell with 30 seconds remaining before Loyola's Katie Sheahin's buzzer beater with one second remaining tied the game at 29 at intermission.

In the second half, Loyola opened the period with nine of the first eleven points in just over four minutes, taking a 38-31 lead on a layup by Sheahin with 15:53 remaining in the half.  Iona would cut the margin to five on a jumper by Martinez before a 10-1 run by the Greyhounds gave Loyola a double digit margin, 48-34, it would not relinquish the rest of the way.  A free throw by Sheahin with 3:30 gave Loyola a 22 point cushion of 60-38, its largest lead of the game, as Iona fell to 5-3 in conference play.

Martinez led the Gaels with 15 points, while Adams grabbed a game high nine rebounds.  Sheahin led Loyola with a game 23 points and Kara Marshall scored 14 second half points.

Iona looks to back in the win column Thursday when it travels to Siena for a 7:00 pm tip.
