BEDMINSTER, NJ - The Iona College golf team sits in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, held Sunday at the Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.
The team posted a score of 306 on the day, placing them tied for sixth with Saint Peter's University and La Salle. Temple is the team leader with a one round score of 287
Junior Evan DeLuca is the team's top scorer, after a first round even par 72 put him in a five-way tie for seventh place. Juniors Tom McHugh and Taylor Bellemare and freshman Stefan Cygan are among seven players tied for 37th after the trio carded identical scores of 78 (+6) over the first 18 holes. Freshman Brian Fitzpatrick is tied for 44th overall after shooting a seven-over 79 in round one.
The Gaels complete the second day of competition tomorrow, beginning at 8:30 am.
