RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College women's cross country team earned its ninth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship with a first place finish at the 2013 event at Van Cortlandt Park. Sophomore Kate Avery took the individual crown, winning the race by just under a minute.

Avery finished the 6k event with a time of 21:07.14. She is the eighth straight and eighth different individual MAAC Champion for the Gaels.

Rookie Maya Rehberg was second overall 59 seconds behind Avery in 22:06.59. After Quinnipiac freshman Niamh Ashe fished third, Iona seniors Kirsten Stewart and Katie Niblock came in fourth and fifth place. Iona's fifth scorer was senior Luci McLoughlin (18th, 23:32.72).

The Gaels earned a team score of 30, topping second place Quinnipiac by 29 points. Marist was third (109) followed closely by Monmouth (110) and Rider (147) to round out the top five.

Iona now holds NCAA Division I's longest active conference championship streak all alone. Quinnipiac previously won eight straight Northeast Conference titles before joining the MAAC in 2013.
