Kylie Gregory continues to lead the Iona College lacrosse team this season in scoring, but the team dropped a hard fought battle with UC Davis 14-10 on Friday afternoon to conclude the squads west coast trip.
Davis was led by Hannah Mirza with five goals and six points. Elizabeth Datino finished with five points and Meghan Jordan had four assists. Kai Murphy made 10 stops on 14 shots for the win.
Both sides traded goals in the first half; with Davis taking a 3-2 lead into the half. Iona's first half markers were by Gregory and Gennaro.
In the second half the action picked up with 19 total goals. The Aggies scored the first two goals t take a 5-2 lead, before Iona scored two of the next three goals to make it 6-4. UC Davis went on a 3-0 run to increase their lead by five 9-4. Iona answered back with a pair of goals on three occasions, but the lead was too much for the Gaels comeback.
Iona (2-5) will return back to New York to take on Stony Brook on March 20 at 7 p.m.
