BUFFALO, NY – The Iona College lacrosse team dropped a 16-5 decision to Canisius in MAAC play on Saturday afternoon.
Iona was led by junior Jenna Stone with a pair of goals. Senior Kylie Gregory and sophomores Casey Palmer and Bernadette Gennaro also tallied for the Gaels. Junior Maria Ortiz made 12 saves in the contest on 28 shots.
Canisius' Morgan Leonard had four goals with seven other Golden Griffs also scoring. Kayla Scully made seven saves on 13 shots.
Gennaro scored to tie the game with 26:55 remaining, before the Golden Griffs scored the next 10 goals to take an 11-1 lead at the half. Iona opened the second half on a 3-1 run, but still trailed 12-4.
Iona will return back to Mazzella Field on Wednesday to take on local rival Manhattan at 3 p.m.
