ONEONTA, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team (2-3-1) dropped a 1-0 decision to Hartwick Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Elmore Field.
After neither side found the net in the first half, Hartwick grabbed a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the second when Max Walcott converted his second goal of the season. Walcott fought past the defense and volleyed a shot from six yards out over the head of Iona goalkeeper Julian Petrello that turned out to be the difference in the shot.
Iona was unable to match the score, despite five shots in the second half. Overall, the squads each posted nine shots in the contest. Individually, senior Samuel Adjei and junior Ignacio Maganto each tallied three attempts.
Petrello made five saves in net for the Gaels while Hartwick goalkeeper Mateo Munarriz recorded one stop.
The Gaels return home to Mazzella Field this Wednesday, Sept. 25th when they host Delaware at 3:00 pm.
