Lacrosse Falls At Quinnipiac, 15-9

HAMDEN, CT - The Iona College women's lacrosse team fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats 15-9 Wednesday afternoon. Senior Nina Veneziale led the Gaels with three goals, all coming in the second half.

The Gaels got off to a fast start against their MAAC rival, tallying the first three goals of the contest. Sophomore Mary Kate McCormick put the Gaels on the board early, followed by junior Meghan Testoni, and freshman Erin Pugh's team leading 17th of the season to give Iona the 3-0 advantage. From there, the Bobcats closed the half on a 10-0 run, including four goals apiece from Kyra Ochwat and Kearney Sneath. The Gaels faced a 13-3 deficit after the first thirty minutes.

Veneziale opened the second half scoring the first three Iona goals, all on free possessions, as she cut the Quinnipiac lead to six. The Gaels and Bobcats traded goals the rest of the way, led by freshman Katelyn Noschese, McCormick, and freshman Rachelle Serafini each posting a goal.

The Gaels were outshot 39-29, while the Bobcats held the advantage in ground balls 24-12. In goal, sophomore Thea Leitman made three saves, and junior Blaire Nathanson stopped two Quinnipiac shots in the first half. Senior Maria Ortiz took over in the second half, making 12 saves.

The Gaels next head north to take on Niagara on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
