STATEN ISLAND, NY – In the lone meet of the weekend for the Iona College track and field program, several individuals put forth personal records while improving rankings within the MAAC at the Fastrack National Invitational this evening, hosted by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Brandon Allen highlighted the evening with a first place showing, his first win of the season, during the 5,000 meter. Allen notched the best time of the season in the MAAC, falling one second short of his personal best at 14:22.49.
Also putting forth the best time in the MAAC season was Liam Dee in 3,000 meter, the first of three top-10 finishes for the Gales in the event. Dee tallied second place with a new personal best time of 8:02.71 while Johannes Motschmann finished two spots behind with his own personal best of 8:10.11, third best time in the MAAC. Locking in the fifth best conference time, Gilbert Kirui clocked in at 8:16.68 for ninth place.
The men's squad also added a pair of top-10 finishes in the mile, led by Kieran Clements finishing sixth. Clements timed in at 4:07.13 for the third best time in the league on the season. Chartt Miller added the sixth best time of the season and 10th place at the meet with a 4:11.30 time.
Three top-seven finishers led the way for the women's program on the day. Julia Flower paced the group with a second place time of 17:20.28 in the 5k for the third best time of the year in the MAAC Finishing with a personal record of 17:21.59, Cassandra Gill finished one spot behind flower in the meet while also sitting a space behind in the MAAC rankings. Hannah Molloy posted an 18:18.99 clocking for seventh place.
Looking ahead, Iona returns to competition next weekend with the two-day MAAC Championships at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center starting on Saturday.
