NEW ROCHELLE, NY - After earning MAAC Championship MVP honors on Monday, Iona College men's basketball senior Jordan Washington was recognized today on the College Sports Madness All-Mid Major Second Team.

A 2017 All-MAAC First Team unanimous selection, Washington scored 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds during Monday's MAAC Championship Final win against Siena College to send the Gaels (22-12) to a second straight NCAA Tournament  berth. The Jamiaca native hit a pair of free throws with 1.6 seconds left to put the Maroon & Gold ahead by four points and secure the victory.

Washington became the 38th member of the Iona 1,000-point club during last Friday's quarterfinal win against Rider. In just two seasons in New Rochelle, he has scored 1,048 points to rank 34th in program history.

This season, the 6-8 forward leads the team with 17.9 points per-game to rank fourth in the MAAC. He also owns the fifth best rebounding average in the conference at 7.5 per-game while shooting the ninth most free throw attempts in the country, 231.

Washington was one of two MAAC representatives on the All-Mid Major list as Monmouth's Justin Robinson was honored as the Player of the Year in addition to being selected to the First Team.

The Gaels look forward to the NCAA Selection Show this Sunday at 5:30 pm to see where their automatic bid will land them in the tournament field.
