EDISON, NJ – Iona men's basketball junior Kosy Akametu has been named MAAC Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
 
Akametu becomes the third Gael to earn the honor this season, joining graduates CJ Anthony and Toby Harris, who each captured the award earlier in the year.
 
The guard powered Iona to a pair of victories to close the regular season, leading the team in scoring across wins over Rider and archrival Manhattan. He averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range, including six consecutive made triples across the two contests.
 
Akametu opened the weekend with a team-high 22 points and six rebounds in Friday's home win over Rider, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor. He followed with 15 points and eight rebounds on the road at Manhattan, finishing just one point shy of the team lead while knocking down three three-pointers.
 
No. 8 seed Iona opens postseason play against No. 9 Sacred Heart in the first game of the opening round of the 2026 MAAC Championship at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
