SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Last week at the 2017 Australian Athletics Championships, Iona College cross country and track & field alum Heidi Gregson See captured gold by winning the 1,500 meter race for the third straight year.
The middle-distance specialist outlasted three Olympic semifinalists with a late surge to win the race at 4:23.99. See managed to put together a well-timed push in the final straight to finish ahead of pre-race favorite Linden Hall (4:24.53) as well as 2015 World Championship finalist Zoe Buckman (4:24.33).
See is the third individual to capture three straight 1,500 meter national titles, joining Jenn Orr, a 1972 Olympic finalist, and Australian record holder Sarah Jamieson. The 2012 graduate adds three straight national titles to her resume in addition to a second place finish in 2014.
