LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Iona University men's cross country team continued its three-plus decade dominance in the MAAC Championship by capturing its 32nd straight conference title this morning at The Crossings of Colonie. For the second straight year, the Gaels posted 17 team points, with eight of the first 11 runners cross the line. The program extended the longest NCAA Division I conference championship streak in the country.

RACE SUMMARY

Leading the Gaels was individual champion, Joshua DeSouza, who paced Iona with a time of 23:46.6 on the 8k course. Sophomore Damien Dilcher crossed second, just over one second behind his teammate. Junior Jonathan DeSouza earned bronze, finishing with a time of 23:51.6. After Siena junior Brandon Olden broke up the Gael parade (23:53.0), sophomore Lachlan Wellington (24:02.1), junior Mael Gouyette (24:04.7), sophomore Nick Soldevere (24:23.7) and junior Campbell Lee (24:27.9) finished fifth through eighth place. Senior Graham Baird was also named All-MAAC with an 11th place finish (24:37.4).

THAT'S OUTSTANDING

Joshua DeSouza became Iona's 22nd consecutive individual champion dating back to 2002. He was named Most Outstanding Performer of the event.

COACH OF THE YEAR REDUX

Iona Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Joe Pienta repeated as MAAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

HELLO NEWBIE

Tadhg Donnelly in his first MAAC Cross Country Championship event earned Rookie of the Year honors with an 18th place finish (25:09.5) as the first freshman to cross the line.

TEAM RESULTS

Siena finished second to the Gaels with 61 points. Marist (96) was third and was followed by Rider (100) and Canisius (131) in the top five. Iona has posted a team score of greater than 18 only twice this century (2001, 2018) with 11 perfect scores of 15.
