Camil Azzam Ruiz of Iona MSOC Named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

EDISON, NJ - Iona University men's soccer senior Camil Azzam Ruiz was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Azzam Ruiz scored three goals across Iona's wins over Fairfield and Mount St. Mary's, helping the Maroon & Gold clinch a top-two spot in the 2022 MAAC Championship.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain native scored a penalty kick goal in Iona's 2-0 victory over Fairfield on Wednesday and followed it up with his first brace of the season, netting Iona's first two goals in a 3-0 road win over Mount St. Mary's. Azzam Ruiz leads the team with five goals and 12 points scored.

The Gaels wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, November 2 at Saint Peter's with a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2022 MAAC Championship. Regardless of the outcome on Wednesday, Iona will host the MAAC Semifinal on Thursday, November 10.
