Iona Golf Strong Day One At The Sacred Heart Spring Invite

DAYTONA, FL - Iona men's golf program ended the first round of the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational in Daytona, FL at +11 as a team. They currently sit in third place behind Sacred Heart and Stetson, and ahead of Bryant, Purdue Fort Wayne, Fairfield, Manhattan, Evansville, & Eastern Illinois.

Coming off a win, Graduate student Justin Burkhamer stays hot posting a -2 (70) and firing four birdies on the back nine. A beautiful stick from 168 out made it an easy five foot putt for birdie on the par 4 13th started the stretch of three birdies over the last six holes for the Florida native. Garrett Giles played a very consistent round one posting a 73 (+1). 13 pars and two birdies kept the round low.

Parker Smith found the same number of birdies as Burkhamer but a double bogey on the seventeenth allowed him to come in over par at 74 (+2). Gonzalo Arcelay nearly shot an identical round to Giles but one more bogey notched him one stroke back of Giles at 74 (+2). Arcelay is playing as an individual and his score will not count to the team score.

Brandon Burkhamer and Kritsarin Oukosavanna both came in at +10 (82). They combined for three birdies, one on one of each par, 3, 4, & 5. Iona sits third place but the last two groups of the day have two hole to finish tomorrow morning at 8:30 am before the start of round two.
