RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona University men's cross country team earned a first-place team finish at the 27th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. Junior
Joshua DeSouza led four Gaels among the top six in the victory.
DeSouza finished the Michael Byrne Men's Championship 8k event as the second-place finisher with his time of 24:59.2. Sophomore
Damien Dilcher came in right behind his teammate in 25:06.6. Junior
Campbell Lee was fifth, posting a 25:19.8. Junior
Jonathan DeSouza came in sixth in 25:20.7. Iona's final scorer was sophomore
TJ Harkins who crossed the line in 24th place.
Iona's team score of 39 points was 10 less than second place Army. Additional regional rivals Buffalo (61) and Binghamton (75) finished third and fourth. The eight-team field was rounded out by Concordia-St. Paul (161), Quinnipiac (166), Fairfield (175), and Yeshiva (240).
The Gaels are back in action next weekend at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University.
