POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona University men's cross country team opened its 2022 campaign at the annual Marist Season Opener held at Vassar College Farm and Ecological Preserve. Sophomore TJ Harkins led a young Gael squad to a second-place team finish, crossing the line third overall individually.
 
The first of nine Iona performers to finish, Harkins completed the 6k event in 19:18.4. Rookies Jack O'Keefe and Peter Fogarty made their Iona cross country debuts with top 10 performances. O'Keefe, a true freshman, finished sixth overall (19:28.9) with Fogarty coming in just behind him in 19:31.1. Red shirt freshman Matthew Penna and sophomore Nick Sinofsky were the Gaels final two scorers in 13th (19:50.7) and 15th (19:51.9) place respectively.
 
Marist junior Ramsey Little took the individual crown in 18:32.6.  The Red Foxes also earned the team title.
 
The Gaels are back in action in two weeks when they host the 27th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.
