POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona University women's cross country team opened its 2022 campaign at the annual Marist Season Opener held at Vassar College Farm and Ecological Preserve. Junior
Gabrielle Toth led the Gaels to a third-place team finish, crossing the line fourth overall individually.

One of five Iona harriers competing in the event, Toth was the lone top 10 finisher, posting a time of 18:43.2 in the 5k event. Junior
Maya Richardson finished 14th overall in 19:28.7 and was followed by rookie
McKenna Arguien (19:32.5) making her Gael debut. Red shirt freshman
Kate Sherman was 19th in 19:49.8 and sophomore
Cosmina Spiridon finished 25th (20:05.0)

UConn earned the team title with 25 points. Marist was second with 68 with the Gaels 76 points good for third. UConn senior Caroline Webb was the first individual to cross in 18:20.8.

The Gaels are back in action in two weeks when they host the 27th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.
