POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona University women's cross country team began its 2025 season with a third-place finish at the Marist Season Opener, contested on the 5k course at Vassar Farm in Poughkeepsie, NY.

IONA PERFORMERS

Junior McKenna Arguien led the way for the Gaels with an eighth-place finish, crossing the line in 19:18.0. Fellow junior Alexa Doe was next for Iona in 11th place at 19:24.3, while freshman Alyssa Dovico impressed in her collegiate debut, placing 15th in 19:48.5. Two more rookies rounded out the scoring five, as Gabrielle Carroll finished 24th in 20:46.6 and Sarah Wisnieski took 32nd in 21:24.3.

TOP INDIVIDUAL

The individual title went to Marist senior Parker O'Brien, who broke the tape in 18:51.4.

TEAM RESULTS

Marist earned the team crown with 30 points, followed by Fairfield in second with 40. Iona claimed third place with 85 points, edging UAlbany in fourth at 94, while Siena was fifth with 104.

UP NEXT

The Gaels return to competition on Friday, September 12, when they host the 30th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The women's race, the Joe Dula Women's Championship 5k, is set for 10:45 a.m., following the Mick Byrne Men's Championship 5-Mile at 10:00 a.m.
