NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's indoor track & field team opened the 2023 portion of its schedule Friday at the Ramapo College Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center. The Gaels were led by four first place and a second place finish at the event.
5,000-METER RUN
Freshman
Scott Fagan led off the day with a first place finish in the 5k event. In his Iona debut he ran a time of 14:46.56 and was more than four seconds ahead of Manhattan's Michael Hennelly.
MILE RUN
Junior
Joshua DeSouza took top honors in the mile, posting a 4:12.79. He was nearly five and a half seconds faster than the No. 2 finisher from Central Connecticut. Classmate
Nick Hunziker finished 11th in 4:29.76.
800-METER RUN
Freshman
Aiden Coles and junior
Nick Soldevere competed in one of the more exciting finishes of the day. The rookie Coles held off his teammate by .03 seconds in his Gael debut with a time of 1:55.52. Soldevere's 1:55.55 as .34 seconds ahead of the third place finisher from Georgian Court. Senior
Jamie Dee was seventh in 1:57.96.
200-METER DASH
Iona's final top finish came from junior
Jadyn Tabois, who blazed a 21.63 and finished almost a second faster than the No. 2 finisher from CCSU. It was his fastest collegiate indoor 200-meter time, and lowered his school record, besting his MAAC Championship performance last year by nearly a second.
60-METER DASH
Tabois also shined in the 60-meter event, running near identical times in both qualifying and final heats. His 6.97 in the final was fourth best. His 6.95 in the qualifier was a new personal best. Tabois is the fourth Gael in program history to run a sub 7-second 60-time

Matthew Penna and junior
Peter Schulten rounded out the Gaels top 10 finishes at the Ramapo event finishing sixth (8:57.74) and ninth (9:07.95) in the 3k.
