NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University women's indoor track & field team opened the 2023 portion of its schedule Friday at the Ramapo College Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center. The Gaels were led by six top three finishes at the event.

3,000-METER RUN

Sophomore Cosmina Spiridon and freshman Cara Du Preez headlined the Gaels finishers finished as the top two in the 3k event. Spiridon was first in 10:33.20 while Du Preez was two seconds behind with a 10:35.24. Junior Maya Richardson placed fifth (10:43.89).

5,000-METER RUN

Sophomore Madison Klein earned second place in the 5k with a 18:26.88

60-METER DASH

Sophomore Kedarjah Lewis blazed two times in the 60-meter dash.  As the top seed following qualifying heats with a 7.88, she finished third in the final posting a hand-timed 7.70 due to a timing malfunction. The final time would stand as a school record had the FAT timing system been available.  Senior Faith Preziosi - also Lewis' women's soccer teammate - made her track debut for the Gaels and finished eighth in the final.  Her 8.20 time in the qualifying heat ranks No. 4 in Iona history.

LONG JUMP

Lewis earned third place in the long jump with a 5.27 meter effort.

800-METER RUN

Sophomore Katie Menard earned a Top 10 finish, placing sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.24.

60-METER HURDLES

Freshman Maeghan Hickey made her Iona debut and finished sixth in 9.60.

4x400-METER RELAY

Iona's quartet of Menard, Grace Sparrow, Nadine Jefremow, and Susie O'Flynn earned an eighth place finish overall and first in their heat in the 4x400, posting a time of 4:16.60.  Twenty-one teams competed in the event.

200-METER DASH / MILE RUN

Junior Bria Oatman and sophomore Isabel Raymond earned 10th place finishes in their respective events.  Oatman ran a 27.14 in the 200m while Raymond posted a 5:35.76 in the mile.
