NEW YORK, NY - Iona University men's indoor track and field team sophomore
Matthew Rankin led the Gaels on the final day of the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge at the Armory Track & Field Center Saturday. Rankin captured first place in the 3,000-meter event as all four men's competitors earned a top 11 finish at the Armory.
3,000-METER RUN
Rankin posted a time of 8:04.85 and topped La Salle's Ibrahim Kedir by nearly four seconds and the third place finisher by nearly eight. It was a season-best time in the event for Iona and second fastest in the MAAC this season in Rankin's first 3k race in two seasons on the indoor track. He also entered the Top 25 all-time for the Maroon & Gold. Senior
Graham Baird was 11th overall (8:23.88) in the college race that featured a mix of competitors from top schools in the Northeast.
200-METER DASH
Junior
Jadyn Tabois ran the fourth fastest 200-meter time in the six-heat, 35-runner college event. His time of 21.58 lowered his own school record which he set last week on the same track. He finished third in his heat and .29 seconds behind the event winner from Cornell. It stands as the fastest time in the MAAC this season.
MILE RUN
Senior
Jamie Dee was fifth overall in the mile event running an indoor personal best time of 4:08.28. He was less than three seconds behind the race winner. Dee's previous best time was set at the Penn 8 Team Select in January 2020. His time this weekend ranks third in the MAAC this season.
