NEW YORK, NY - Sophomore
Kedarjah Lewis set two school records and earned gold in the long jump to pace the Iona University women's indoor track & field on Day 1 of the 2023 MAAC Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center. The Gaels also advanced six qualifiers in three events and earned nine team points in the 5,000-meter and Distance Medley Relay finals Saturday night.
LONG JUMP FINAL
Lewis raised her school record in the long jump with 6.01m effort and won the event by nearly 11 inches over the silver medalist from Rider. Lewis also improved on her silver medal effort from a year ago. Her previous best mark was 5.67m set in January at the Ramapo opener. Sophomore
Tonian Fullerton finished 21st (4.91m).
60-METER PRELIMINARIES
Lewis also blazed a 7.68 in the 60-meter dash, earning the second fastest time and qualifying for tomorrow's final. It lowered her own school record of 7.73 in the preliminary heat of last year's MAAC Championships where she was the eventual silver medalist. Senior and fellow women's soccer teammate
Faith Preziosi was 14th overall and fourth in her heat in 7.99.
800-METER PRELIMINARIES
Junior
Grace Sparrow and sophomore
Katie Menard qualified for the 800-meter final. Sparrow was first in her heat in 2:21.56 to automatically qualify. Menard was third in her heat and her 2:21.00 was the sixth fastest time among qualifiers. It was her second fastest 800 time while at Iona. Sophomore
Jamie Gudyka was 20th (2:28.27).
5,000-METER FINAL
Sophomore
Madison Klein earned fourth place points in the 5k event, posting a personal best time of 17:31.46. She improved on her ninth place finish from a year ago. Freshman
Cara Du Preez earned seventh place points in 17:44.11, her first indoor 5k time at Iona.
MILE PRELIMINARIES

Gabrielle Toth and
Susie O'Flynn and sophomore
Cosmina Spiridon qualified for the mile final. Toth finished first in her heat with a time of 5:12.87, good for the ninth fastest time. O'Flynn was third in her heat in 5:07.23 and had the third fastest time among the 30 competitors. Spiridon was also third in her heat in 5:12.39, the eighth fastest mark. DISTANCE MEDLEY RELAY FINAL
Iona's DMR quartet of Richardson (1200m),
