STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Iona University men's indoor track and field team competed at the 2023 New York Metropolitan Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Friday. Freshman
Scott Fagan earned a MET Championship in the mile event and junior
Campbell Lee earned a title in the 5,000-meter event to highlight five top 10 finishes for the Maroon & Gold.
MILE RUN
Fagan's first place mile finish came in 4:12.59. He was nearly two seconds faster than Fordham's Steve Zucca. He finished first in his first two collegiate events following a win in the 5k in the Ramapo event two weeks ago. Freshman
Peter Fogarty was 10th overall in 4:31.36.
5,000-METER RUN
Lee's title came in dominant fashion. His 15:18.69 was just under eight seconds faster than Wagner's Michael Ryan in second place.
3,000-METER RUN
Sophomores
Matthew Penna and
Daniel Shephard finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place in the 3,000-meter event. Penna crossed in 8:47.45 while Sheppard finished with a time of 9:06.04. Penna's time was nearly a 10-second personal best.
TEAM FINISH
Iona was ninth as a team, with just 11 runners competing in nine events.
