RALEIGH, NC - The Iona University men's outdoor track team competed on Day 1 of the 2023 Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University. Four Gaels ran times inside the program's Top 15 list led by seniors
Mael Gouyette and
Jamie Dee in their respective events.
MEN'S 1,500-METER RUN
Gouyette finished ninth in the 1,500-meter event among the 196 finishers in the multi-heat race field, blazing a time of 3:42.24. It was his second fastest 1,500-meter time while at Iona, just .11 seconds behind his personal best which ranks as the third fastest time in school history in the event. Sophomore
Damien Dilcher was 20th overall, running a personal best time of 3:44.49. He lowered his previous fastest effort by .07 seconds and remains No. 11 on Iona's all-time list.
MEN'S 5,000-METER RUN
Dee was 13th overall in the 205-runner, 5k race field. His time of 13:47.99 was also his second fastest time at Iona, 1.22 seconds behind his personal best. Dee's fastest time set two years ago at Stanford ranks No. 5 on the Gaels' all-time list and this year's mark would also stand in the Top 6. Junior
Matt Rankin finished 16th with a personal best time of 13:52.78. The finish ranks No. 9 on Iona's all-time 5,000-meter performance list.
