BERLIN MD - Iona men's golf program hosted the Battle at Rum Pointe, at the Rum Pointe Seaside golf course. It was the Gaels strongest performance of the year finishing tied for third shooting even par for the tournament. It was a two day 36-hole event with each school playing five golfers and the top four scores counted towards the team score. Iona finished the first round -1 as a team in 3rd place out of 17 teams playing. 

Other schools participating in the event include; St. Peter's, Fairfield, LIU, Rider, Dartmouth, Colgate, Siena, Harvard, Mount St. Mary's, Hartford, Binghamton, Manhattan, Merrimack, Sacred Heart, Monmouth, and Hofstra. The five golfers for the Maroon & Gold were Gonzalo Arcelay, Fletcher Wunderlich, William Fleck, Parker Smith and Zach Baldwin. Connor Henderson and Finnigan Davies competed as individuals. 

Fletcher Wunderlich

Fletcher posted his best round of the year in the opening round with a five under 67 which gave him a share of the lead heading into round two. He carded seven birdies in the first 13 holes. In round two the transfer turned in another impressive round shooting one-under 71. He finished in the top five at -6 for the 36-hole event.  

Gonzalo Arcelay

Gonzalo continued his strong senior year, his opening round was another Gael who shot under-par. The Spain native found three birdies and only one bogey on his way to a 2-under 70. In round two he shot even par, dropping two spots on the leader board but securing yet another top 10 finish.  

Parker Smith

Smith was the third Gael to finish inside the top 15 on the leader board. The Florida native shot even par in round one then improved by a stroke in round two finishing the event at one-under. Between the two rounds he fired in five birdies. 

William Fleck

After a good start with a birdie on his opening hole the Oregon native finished his first round at seven over shooting a 79. In round two Fleck found a better groove improving by six strokes. He went on to tie his teammate Zach Baldwin for 63rd place.  

Zach Baldwin

Tying his teammate Fleck, Baldwin carded a 78 six over in the opening round. The freshman also improved in his second round, saving two strokes and posting a 76. He found two birdies between the two days. 

Connor Henderson

Connor Henderson was the third Gael golfer to finish under-par. The Freshman posted a 71 (-1). As an individual Henderson was tied for 17th entering the second round and trailing the leaders by four strokes. On the second day the Oregon native struggled to find a rhythm posting an 81 (+9), he finished eight-over for the event. 

Finnigan Davies

Davies was the second Gael to compete as an individual, on the first 18 the Wales native carded a 78 (+6). He followed that up with an 80 (+8) in round two. The senior finished +14 for the tournament. 

Gaels return in April on the 3rd & 4th in Florida at the Southern Invitational the two day event will be at the   The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches in Lake Worth.
