PROVIDENCE, RI - The Iona University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Friar Invitational 2023 at Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field in Providence. Sophomore
Matt Rankin led the Iona men's track team in a pleasant evening on the East coast.
MEN'S MILE RUNDOWN
Six Gaels ran the mile on Ray Treacy Track. Rankin was the Gaels' top performer, running a 4:02.60 and ranked sixth overall. In the same heat, freshman
Aiden Coles ran a personal best time of 4:05.84 and ranked 11th overall, one spot in front of junior
Nick Soldevere (4:06.75) and three spots ahead of junior
Jonathan DeSouza (4:07.85), who finished 12th and 14th respectively. Freshman
Tristan Coles was 21st, posting a 4:11.27 while junior Nicholas Sinofsky was 45th with a 4:22.28.
MEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Six Maroon & Gold singlets were among the 26 runners on the start line of the 3,000-meter event. Sophomore
Tadhg Donnelly earned a confident second place honor in 8:24.08 after is first place last week at the Metropolitan Championships. Junior
Donnovan Tucker ranked sixth overall, running a good time of 8:29.83 in his first collegiate outdoor 3k event. Juniors
Campbell Lee and
Nick Hunziker earned 14th and 16th place honors with times of 8:38.83 and 8:40.53, respectively. Sophomore Matthew Penna was 19th (8:56.83) and freshman
Peter Fogarty was 20th (9:00.83).
MEN'S 5,000-METER RUN
Freshman
Scott Fagan ran 14:40.22 in the 5,000-meter event, a near 40-second improvement on his first 5k at Raleigh Relays three weeks ago. He was 22nd overall in the 54-runner field. Sophomore
TJ Harkins came 28th with a time of 14:58.24 and gained confidence after shattering his previous best time by 45 seconds. Sophomore
Daniel Shephard ran 15:19.18 (39th) and freshman
Jack O'Keefe earned a personal best time of 15:30.73 (42nd).
MEN'S 100-METER DASH
Iona 100- and 200-meter school record holder
Jadyn Tabois blazed a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84. In the same heat, freshman
Jiles Addison was third with the time of 11.47.
MEN'S 400-METER RUN
Junior
John Conroy split 51.81 in the track lap and came in second overall.
