Emily Stewart notched her 100th career goal becoming the eighth student athlete to do so in Iona history.
Kira Varada led the Gaels with six goals.  Â
GAME SUMMARY
Iona's offense got off to a slow start as Marist took a two goal lead in the first five minutes of the game. Alexa Maggiacomo got the Gaels on the board and then seconds later Laine Walterson found the back of the net for the tying goal. Marist regained the lead with 7 minutes left in the first. Kate Krueger and Maylia Haddock scored less than 30 seconds apart giving the Maroon & Gold their first lead of the day. The Red Foxes knotted it back up at 4-4 with 3:45 remaining, over those last minutes the Gaels outscored Marist 3-1 and entered the second quarter with a 7-5 lead.Â
Kira Varada started the second quarter off quickly, extending the lead to three. Marist got it back within one before Stewart and Varada extended it back to three, with 9:56 left in the first half. Over the final eight minutes the Gaels went on another big run outscoring Marist 4-1, they entered the halftime break up six, 14-8.Â
Marist started the scoring in the second half but the Gaels scored the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth goal of the second half extending their lead to a commanding ten goals. The Red foxes out scored the Gaels 2-1 over the final three minutes of the third and Iona entered the final quarter up 20-11.Â
Marist scored the first three goals of the final quarter making it a six goal lead for the Maroon & Gold with 13 minutes remaining. Iona scored four goals in the fourth that kept the red foxes just out of reach of mustering a comeback. Sydney Sweeney picked up the win making 12 saves.Â
