NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the 2023 Metropolitan Intercollegiate Track & Field Association Championships at Icahn Stadium on Saturday. Freshmen
Tadhg Donnelly and
Peter Fogarty were the top performers for the Gaels at METS, earning first and second place honors in the 1500 and 3k steeplechase events, respectively.
MEN'S 1,500-METER RUN
Donnelly led five performers in the top 12 of the 27 runner 1,500-meter run race field with his first place time of 3:58.39 in his first collegiate outdoor 1500 event. Junior
Nick Hunziker was sixth, posting a 4:03.41. Junior
Campbell Lee earned a ninth place honor (4:05.84) and sophomore
Daniel Shephard was 11th (4:07.23).
MEN'S 3,000-METER STEEPLECHASE
Red shirt freshman
Peter Fogarty earned second place honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 9:19.18. His brother, true freshman
Andrew Fogarty, was fourth in 9:25.26. It was a near 15 second improvement on his season opening time at Monmouth two weeks ago.
MEN'S 800-METER RUN
Junior
Nick Soldevere and freshmen Aiden and
Tristan Coles finished third, fourth and fifth in the 800-meter run. Soldevere posted a 1:51.81 in his first 800-meter effort of the 2023 outdoor campaign.
Aiden Coles ran a 1:53.35 while
Tristan Coles posted a 1:54.12, more than a second and a half faster than his season opening time at Stony Brook last month.
MEN'S 100-METER DASH
Freshman
Jiles Addison made his season debut and finished fourth overall in the 100-yard dash. He bested qualifying time of 11.28 with a 10.97 in the final, which stands No. 11 all-time on Iona's all-time performance list.
MEN'S 200-METER DASH
Addison was seventh in the 200-meter event, posting a 22.53, the 13th fastest time in school history.
MEN'S 400-METER RUN
Junior
John Conroy was the Gaels final top 10 performer, posting a 51.06 in the 400-meter run, good for ninth place.
