FAIRFAX, VA - Five Gaels competed for the Iona University men's outdoor track team at the 2023 IC4A Championships at George Mason Stadium, hosted by George Mason University. Junior
Donnovan Tucker was the star of the day, winning the 3,000-meter championship while breaking a 90-year old meet record.
MEN'S 3,000-METER RUN
Tucker posted a time of 8:22.97 in the 3,000-meter event, three seconds ahead of his teammate, freshman
Scott Fagan (8:25.13). Both Gaels time were below the IC4A Championships record time of 8:36.64, set in 1933 by Manhattan's John Ryan. It was the oldest standing IC4A record entering the meet. Tucker's time ranks No. 5 on Iona's all-time performance list while Fagan ranks No. 7, with the second fastest time for Gael freshman behind current teammate
Tadhg Donnelly.
MEN'S 10,000-METER RUN
Junior
Peter Schulten finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in 32:41.03.
MEN'S 3,000-METER STEEPLECHASE
Sophomores
Matt Penna and
Peter Fogarty finished back-to-back in 18th and 19th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. They were separated by just over a half second. Penna's time of 9:41.29 was a personal best while Fogarty clocked in at 9:41.81.
