JACKSONVILLE, FL - Three members of the Iona University men's outdoor track squad advanced to the quarterfinal round of their respective events at the NCAA East First Round at Hodges Stadium hosted by the University of North Florida. Junior
Jadyn Tabois advanced in the 200-meter dash and senior
Mael Gouyette and sophomore
Damien Dilcher moved on in the 1,500-meter run with their performances Wednesday evening. Sophomore
Lachlan Wellington also competed in the 10,000-meter event.
1,500-METER RUN FIRST ROUND
Gouyette and Dilcher earned an auto-qualification into the quarterfinal round with a second and fourth place finish in the second heat of the 1,500-meter run. Gouyette posted a 3:45.43, just .43 seconds behind the heat winner. He was .02 seconds ahead of the third place finisher and .15 behind his teammate Dilcher (3:45.58) in fourth. The top five in each heat advance plus the next four best times for a total of 24 advancing to Friday's quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. Overall they ran the ninth and 11th fastest times in the event.
200-METER DASH FIRST ROUND
Tabois posted a 20.66 in the 200-meter dash, posting the 20th fastest time overall. He finished fourth in the sixth and final heat and had the third fastest time among those that did not finish in the top three in their respective heats. He will compete in Friday night's quarterfinal at 7:50 p.m. where the top 12 advance to Austin, TX for the NCAA semis.
10,000-METER RUN SEMIFINAL
Wellington placed 18th in the 10,000-meter run, posting a 29:46.23. He finished six slots behind the qualifying mark that advanced to Eugene. Senior
Jamie Dee completed more than 7,600 meters in the event but was unable to finish.
