EMMITTSBURG, MD – The Iona University men's outdoor track & field program competed on day one of the 2023 MAAC Championships hosted by Mount St. Mary's University at Morgan Track. The Gaels earned two medals on opening day and had several others qualify for Sunday's final heats.
3,000-METER STEEPLECHASE
Freshman
Peter Fogarty was Iona's first medal winner on the men's side in the championships, earning silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. He finished with a time of 9:18.20, just over two seconds behind the race winner from Canisius. It was a personal best time for Fogarty, besting his time from METS by nearly a second. Classmate
Tristan Coles earned sixth place points in 9:27.92 in his first collegiate steeplechase run. Sophomore
Matt Penna was ninth in 9:50.70, a 10-second personal best.
10,000-METER RUN
Freshman
Tadhg Donnelly ended the day with the Gaels second medal, earning bronze in the 10,000-meter run posting a 31:24.18. He was 14 seconds behind the race winner and more than nine seconds ahead of the No. 4 competitor. It was his first outdoor 10k race. Junior
Campbell Lee earned fifth place points with a time of 31:42.35. Junior

TJ Harkins (11th, 32:28.82), and freshman
Jack O'Keefe (15th, 33:06.11) also competed for the Gaels.
800-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES
A trio of Gaels qualified for Sunday's 800-meter run final. Sophomore
Damien Dilcher posted the top time in the preliminary round, running a personal best time of 1:52.26. Freshman
Aiden Coles had the third fastest time overall and won the third heat in 1:53.56. Junior
Nick Soldevere also won his heat ranked fifth in 1:54.61.
1,500-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES
Iona had four runners qualify for the 1,500-meter final. Juniors
Joshua DeSouza (3:51.94) and
Jonathan DeSouza (3:52.12) earned the top two times in the preliminary round, finishing one-two in the opening heat. Junior
Matt Rankin (3:54.72) and senior
Jamie Dee (3:54.93) earned the eighth and ninth fastest prelim times, finishing back-to-back in third and fourth in the second heat. Junior
Nick Hunziker was 14th overall in 3:57.37.
200-METER DASH PRELIMINARIES
Junior
Jadyn Tabois qualified for the 200-meter dash final, winning the fourth heat and earning the third fastest prelim time of 21.61. Freshman
Jiles Addison (9th, 22.25) and junior Josh DeCoteau (22nd, 25.08) also competed.
400-METER RUN PRELIMINARIES
Tabois won heat three to qualify for the 400-meter final, posting a 48.82. It was the fifth fastest time among preliminary round competitors. Junior
John Conroy was 13th in 50.81.
100-METER DASH PRELIMINARIES
Competing in his first MAAC Championship, freshman
Jiles Addison advanced to sunday's 100-meter dash final, with a second place heat finish and the sixth overall fastest time of 11.03. Conroy was 17th in 11.48.
