EDISON, NJ - Iona University men's basketball freshman guard
Adam Njie was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Gaels' first two contests of the 2024-25 season at Princeton and Hofstra.
Njie averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists in his first two collegiate games vs. the Tigers and Pride. In his Iona debut he scored a team-best 19 points at Princeton, the second highest single-game total by a Maroon & Gold freshman this century. He was one point shy of former MAAC Rookie of the Year Schadrac Casimir's 20 points in his first contest vs. Cleveland State in 2014. Arrigoni Hall of Famer Steve Burtt Jr. holds the third highest effort, with 18 points vs. Lipscomb in 2002. He also posted six assists on the road at Princeton.
Njie added seven points and four rebounds Friday night at Hofstra. For the week, he shot 44.4% from the field and was 4-for-6 from downtown in the two contests.
UP NEXT
Iona takes on Delaware tomorrow night at the Hynes Center and Vermont on Friday. Tip-off for both home contests is at 7 p.m.
