NEW YORK, New York - The Iona University women's indoor track and field team opened the 2024-25 campaign at the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City. Two Gaels set personal best times in The Big Apple, including a first place finish in the mile by 
Tayla Gunton.
WoMEN'S 300-METER RUN
Freshman 
Ava McAuliffe debut for the Gaels finished with a 41.11 in the 300-meter run. The Chazy, New York native's effort placed her ninth in a field of 34 finishers. 
WoMEN'S 400-METER RUN
Nadine Jefremow landed 5th among a field of eight, posting a 1:01.83 in the 400-meter. 
WoMEN'S 600-METER run
Senior 
Megan Sterbenz finished eighth with a time of 1:43.67 in the 600-meter event. Teammate 
Lauren Sonski followed in ninth with a time of 1:44.35.
WoMEN'S 1000-METER run
Kiera Atkinson snagged a sub-three minute fifth place finish in the kilometer run, with a 2:59.57. Senior teammate 
Katie Menard posted a personal best time of 3:00.91 with a seventh place finish.
WoMEN'S one-mile run
Tayla Gunton streaked across the finish line with an impressive personal best of 4:55.78, enough to take home first in the women's mile. Teammate 
Clodagh McGroary was the second Gael finisher with a 5:44.84. 
WoMEN'S SHOT PUT THROW
Tyaja Thomas served as the sole Gael entry into any field event, finishing 12th in shot put with a 10.03-meter throw.
