OCEAN VIEW, NJ - The Iona men's golf program hosted the AC Match Play at the Shore Gate Golf Club in Ocean View, NJ. Mount St. Mary's was the top tema as they defeated Fairfield in the finals. The seven other schools competing included many fellow MAAC schools;, Monmouth, Siena, Fairfield, Mount St. Mary's, Fordham, Saint Peter's, and the Gaels first round match-up Manhattan.

In the first match-up against the Jaspers the Gaels were in full control and defeated Manhattan 5-1. Park Smith won 5 & 3, Connor Henderson won 2 & 1, Zach Baldwin won 3 & 2, Fletcher Wunderlich won by the largest margin of 6 & 4, and Sahir Balyan won his match-up  4 & 3. Sean Richards was the lone Gael to fall in the opening round. 

Iona took on Mount St. Mary's in the semi-final round of the match-play, the Gaels did not fare well in the semi's as they fell to the Mountaineers 4-1-1. Smith fell 5 & 1, Henderson fell 2DN, Baldwin was the lone Gaels win at 4UP, Wunderlich fell 2DW, Balyan tied D. Smith of Mount and Sean Richards ended 2DN.

In the third and final match-up the Gaels took on Saints of Siena. Iona fell to Siena 4-2-0 and finished in fourth place for the event. Smith and Balyan were the two victors for the Maroon & Gold. Smith won his match-up at 3UP and Balyan secured his win 1 & 1. Henderson fell 2 & 1, Baldwin fell 3 & 2, Richards fell 5 & 3, and Wuderlich's match-up came down to the last hole as he fell 1DN.

Iona will be back on the course in a week Apr. 14-15 at the ABARTA Collegiate Invitational hosted by Lafayette at the Northampton Country Club.
