Iona Rowing Compete At NYS Collegiate Championships

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Iona University men and women's rowing teams fielded five boats at the New York State Collegiate Championships. Within the five finals, two boats finished top three with Men's varsity four finishing second in their final.

MEN'S VARSITY 8 

The Gaels V8 boat took second place in the first heat face, posting a time of 6:38.780. Iona just missed out on first place by a time of 0:01.970. Meanwhile in the final, the Gaels finished third with a time of 6:25.553. The Gaels' boat consisted of graduate student coxswain Kelsie Weeks, sophomore Henry Demers, Ethan Megal, junior Abraham Ocampo, senior Danny Vanadia, junior Andrew Catinella, freshman John Karonous, junior Jack Allen and Finn Bolger.

WoMEN'S VARSITY 8 

The Maroon & Gold earned fourth place in the Women's varsity V8 heat, falling short by just over half a minute. In the final, they finished fifth place with a time of 7:35.378. Iona's V8 boat featured senior coxswain Cara Donnelly, seniors Emma Ibbetson, Kaeli Dean, Grace BarberGrace Mutze and Layne McDonald, juniors Lorelei Teddy and Clare Robertsen, and sophomore Tehya Mann.

WoMEN'S 2V 8

Iona's 2V 8 boat finished last in their heat, posting a 8:49.364. In the final, the Gaels took fourth place posting a time of 8:04.280. Senior Ciana Quintana coxed, senior Anna Meehan, Kiara McGarty, Vilte Panavas, MaryGrace Gerger, junior Jacqueline CejaAviela Lim, sophomores Kristy Hughes and Amelia Rosario.

MEN'S Varsity 4

Iona's varisty four plus boat finished fifth in their heat, posting a 8:52.060. In the final, they took second place missing out on first by just below nine second with a final time of 8:11.762. They fell just two seconds behind Manhattan's boat. Sophomore Nick Pagliuca coxed Alejandro Maya, sophomore Aaron Lewis, Braden Bogenrief and freshman Jonah Cone.

WoMEN'S Novice 4 Final

Iona's women's novice 4 finished fourth in their final with a time of 9:35.726 and were just over a minute out of first. Alina Hosein coxed and the boat was filled by Briana Riordan, Abby Doronila, Daniela Mutis and Leah Dennis.
