EDISON, NJ – Iona University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper Adriano Sofio has been named the Metro Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office.

Sofio earns his second weekly conference honor of the season after previously being named Co-Defensive Player of the Week on August 31. He becomes the third Gael to receive Rookie of the Week recognition this season, joining teammates Brayden O'Boyle and Ignacio Manzanares.

The freshman goalkeeper recorded his second clean sheet of the season in Iona's scoreless draw against Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field. Sofio turned away both shots on target he faced to preserve the shutout against the Pioneers.

The performance marked his second shutout in a scoreless draw, following his collegiate debut at Seton Hall in August. With two clean sheets on the season, Sofio is tied for the conference lead among rookie goalkeepers and sits just one behind the overall Metro lead.  >
