Iona Women 6th; Men 13th After Day 1 of ECAC Champs at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, PA - Sparked by a pair of strong relay efforts, the Iona University Women's Swimming & Diving Team got off to a solid start at Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA.

The Iona quartet of Mary Grace Waring (24.43); Hailey Baker (24.83), Kate Kennedy (24.58) and Victoria Mordaunt (24.09) clocked 1:37.93 to take fifth.

The team of backstroker, Julia Hulse (1:00.31); breaststroker, Baker (1:05.64); butterflyer, Marissa Hengesbach (59.17) and freestyler, Waring (52.17) took bronze at 3:57.29.

In between freshmen Mordaunt placed 16th I n the 50-Free at 24.55.

The Iona women stand in sixth place behind, Navy, Bucknell, Penn, Loyola and Fairfield.

The Iona men's travel group of 5 swimmers, had Dylan Malave swim backstroke (54.39); Jonathan Rielly swim the breaststroke leg (58.52); Harry Summers swim butterfly (50.40) and Nicola Re freestyle (47.85) for seventh at 3:31.16 in the 400-Medley Relay

The freshmen Re also claimed 16h place in the 500-yard Freestyle at 4:48.04 after a career best preliminary effort of 4:46.62.

The balance of the men's squad remained training in New Rochelle, prepping for the College Swim Coaches Association National Invitational Championship in Ocala Florida March 12-14, along with MAAC Champion Raegan O'Brien. Senior diver, Dylan Riccio attends the NCAA Zone Championships on March 9 at Navy.

Navy, Loyola and Penn hold the top three spots on the men's race that resumes Saturday with the 200-Medley Relay, 400-Individual Medley, 100-Butterfly, 200-Freestyle, 100-Breaststroke, 100-Backstroke and 800-Free Relay.
