Piscataway, NJ- The Iona College baseball team dropped a 10-3
decision in non-conference action at Rutgers this afternoon. The
Scarlet Knights (21-14) scored all 10 runs before the Gaels (9-21) were
able to get on the scoreboard.
Iona tacked on a run in the top of the sixth inning when
sophomore SS Joe Lorenzo doubled down the left field line and drove
home rookie 2B Mike Walraven.
The Maroon & Gold added two more in the eighth, on back to
back run scoring hits by junior DH Allie Abbatiello and Lorenzo.
Abbatiello drove in junior CF Paul Salerno with a single to right field
and was followed up by Lorenzo's second RBI double of the contest.
Lorenzo was the lone Gael with multiple hits with his two doubles and two RBI. Rookie RHP Dylan McCullough (0-2) took the loss.
Four different Scarlet Knights collected two hits in the win.
The Gaels return to MAAC play at home when they take on Marist
in a three-game series begininng on Saturday. The doubleheader with the
Red Foxes is scheduled to begin at noon.
