Philadelphia, PA - The Iona College men's soccer team was unable to capitalize on four shots on goal, as the Gaels (3-6-0) were held scoreless by Drexel (3-2-2) in a 3-0 defeat.
The Dragons marked their first tally on a goal by Nate Baker in the 16th minute. Baker's shot from 30 yards out blew past Iona goalkeeper Nils Binstock and into the upper left corner of the net. Baker added a second goal eleven minutes later to increase Drexel's lead to 2-0 in the first half. Fabio Assumpcao chipped in a third goal for the Dragons in the second period to close out the scoring.
Iona outshot Drexel 9-4 in the second half. Michael Ferenci attempted a tap-in goal that was saved by Drexel goalie Cory Robertson with eight minutes remaining in the game, and Aly Lo shot wide when he was pressured by Robinson after making a breakaway. Pasquale Abiuso and Bryan Oelkers also recorded a shot on goal for Iona.
The Gaels return to action with a home contest against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Saint Peter's on Oct. 5. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
