Baltimore, MD - In its first game of the UMBC Adidas Soccer Classic, the Iona College men's soccer team lost a close battle to Navy and fell to 1-2-0 on the season.

The Gaels were the first on the scoreboard with a goal by Fernando Liserra giving them a 1-0 edge in the 14th minute. Aly Lo scuffled past a pair of Midshipmen defenders and set off a shot, but missed. Liserra grabbed the rebound and knocked it in for the Iona score. Lo was credited with an assist on the play.

Navy drew even in the second half when Adam Pennington found the lower right corner of the net off a cross from Justin Waskey. The remainder of the second half and the first overtime period were scoreles.

Navy ended the game early in the second overtime session on a bicycle kick goal by Mark Garcia.

The Maroon & Gold trailed slightly in shots (11-9) and corner kicks (9-6). Goalkeeper Nils Binstock made six saves for the Gaels.

Iona will play tournament host UMBC on Sunday (Sep. 9) at 2:30 pm for its final game of the UMBC Adidas Soccer Classic.
