Morgantown, VA - The Iona College baseball team lost a doubleheader to West Virginia in non-conference action at Hawley Field this afternoon. Iona dropped the opener 7-2 in seven innings and 12-2 in a the nine-inning night cap.
The Mountaineers (12-4) took a 5-0 lead after five innings before Iona got on the board in the top of the sixth. An infield single by senior CF

Chris Leahy for Iona's five hits. Abbatiello collected his second hit of the season and second double after making his season debut in yesterday's contest.

Bobby DiNuzzo (0-3) took the loss tossing 4.1 innings allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters.
The Maroon & Gold took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap, on an RBI single by Walraven that crossed home Leahy. Senior LHP
Kevin Carmody allowed just one base runner through the first four innings before the West Virginia knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Mountaineers exploded for 11 runs over the next three innings to earn the win. Salerno's sac fly in the top of the eighth accounted for the Gaels final run.
Carmody (0-2) took the loss. His stat line was 5.1 IP, five hits, four runs allowed and two strikeouts.
Iona and West Virginia complete their four-game series tomorrow afternoon for a 3:00 pm tilt in Morgantown.
