SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Iona College baseball team fell to NJIT in its second contest at the 2009 Strikeout Cancer Tournament hosted by Seton Hall.   The Gaels made a push to even the game in their last at bat but could only push one run across.

NJIT scored first in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame.  They manufactured their second run in the bottom of the seventh.   A two-out single to centerfield plated the eventual game-winning tally.

In the bottom of the ninth, freshman 2B Chris Burke tripled into the vast left centerfield gap with one out.   Senior C Andrew Wernicki picked up an RBI on a groundout to third.

Six different Gaels were responsible for hits in the game.  Senior RHP Justin Karn (0-2) took the loss.  He allowed a run on two innings of work.   Junior RHP Dylan McCullough tossed the next four and also let up a solo run.   Sophomores Matt Casino and Brian Callahan combined for two scoreless innings to finish the game.

The Gaels complete action at Seton Hall when they take on the tournament host tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
