NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped its season finale to Manhattan 10-1 in MAAC action at Salesian Field. The Gaels celebrated Senior Day prior to the game marking the final games for William Dorsa, Justin Karn and Andrew Wernicki.
The Gaels tallied their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two out, junior CF Chris Leahy drove in freshman SS Eric Capowski from second base after the rookie walked and stole a base.
Sophomore Chris Griffin had two hits and was perfect on 11 chances at first base.
Dorsa took the loss, tossing 130 pitches over seven innings. Wernicki led off with a double and almost ended his career on a story book note but a long fly ball was tracked down on the warning track in the eighth inning. Karn was unable to pitch due to injury and made a pinch hit appearance in the ninth inning.
Prior to the game, former baseball standout and 2009 Goal Club Hall of Fame inductee Sam Talisano threw out the first pitch.
