HAMDEN, CT-  The Iona College men's soccer team picked up a 2-2 tie against Quinnpiac in non-conference action on the road.  Senior froward Giovanni Destasio tallied both goals for the Gaels in the draw.

The Gaels got on the board right away as Destasio received a pass from junior Mario Rios inside the box and put a shot into the lower left corner past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Freddy Hall. 

Less than five minutes later, the Bobcats tied the score at 1-1 when Pierre Sobrier scored on a free kick just outside the top of the goal box.

Destasio gave the Gaels a 2-1 lead just four minutes later. The Iona forward was able to slip a loose ball into the net after it ricocheted off a Quinnipiac defender and Hall along the goal line. Destasio's foot caught just enough of the ball as it went past to deflect it into the goal.

With just over five minutes left in the half, Quinnipiac continued the shoot out that was the first 45 minutes of the contest as Philip Suprise tied the score at 2-2.

The score would remain knotted through the second half and both overtime periods.  Destasio just missed his third goal of the game in the second half one of his team-high 10 shot attempts in the game hit the post.

Senior netminder Nils Binstock stopped five shots while his counterpart Hall had seven saves.   The Gaels held a 22-20 advantage on shots.

The Gaels continue their seven-game road trip at Drexel on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
