LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Senior Matt Bayley and sophomore Andrew Kowalsky led the Iona College men's outdoor track team and earned first place finishes on the first day of the 2013 MAAC Championships at Rider University.
Bayley earned the first individual title for the Gaels winning the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 9:03.25. He defeated Marist's Arquimedes DelaCruz by two and a half seconds.
Kowalsky was first in the 10,000-meter event. He beat Rider's Anthony Dentino by three seconds with a time of 31:52.48. After a second Bronc harrier finished third overall, a trio of Gaels held the fourth through sixth place positions. Freshman Kieran Clements was fourth (32:09.76) and followed by sophomore Michael O'Dowd (32:10.08) and Nick Lachman (32:10.62).
The Gaels complete action at the MAAC Championships Sunday afternoon.
