PRINCETON, NJ - Twelve members of the Iona College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the 2015 Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University Friday evening. Men's sophomore Brandon Allen and women's senior Marlene Delices were the Gaels' top finishers.
Allen and rookie Liam Dee finished back-to-back in the 5,000-meter event finishing third and fourth overall. They were the top NCAA Division I competitors in the 57-member race field. Allen turned in a 14:25.83 while Dee was less than two seconds behind his teammate in 14:27.26.
Rookie Johannes Motschmann was Iona's top finisher in the 1,500-meter run. He finished 12th overall in 3:57.58. Classmate Alex Carter (3:59.32) was 18th while sophomore Ross Wightman finished 24th overall (4:00.37).
Completing action on the men's side in the 800-meter even was senior Reed Kochanek (1:58.52, 25th) and freshman Robert Kirsty (2:01.42, 36th).
Delices was 12th overall in the women's 1,500-meter run with her time of 4:37.28. Freshmen Rach Garn (4:47.47, 25th) and Natalie Holder (4:51.91, 34th) also competed for the Maroon & Gold in the event.
Freshman Jessica Scheriff finished 17th overall in the 5,000-meter event () to round out Iona's competitors in Princeton.
