NEW HAVEN, CT - Sparked by a combination of depth, the Iona College men's and women's swimming & diving programs each captured a road victory against Southern Connecticut State University at Moore Field House.
The Iona men were sparked by racing victories from the combined efforts of seniors Christian Foti, Sam Braziel, Christopher Vadala, sophomore Matt Anderson, and freshmen Gabriel Finch and Conor Mullin. Fueled by Foti's team-leading three wins in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, the Gaels rolled to a 191.5 – 92.5 win over the owls.
Sophomore Alyssa Chain propelled the Maroon & Gold's women's team with three wins of her own; she took home the gold in the 50 and 100-Freestyle, as well as the 100-Butterfly. Rookies Adrienne Bilello, Willow Lopez-Silvers, Kayla Davis, and Kate DiRaimo combined to win six races. The Iona women's swimming & diving program earned its first dual meet win of the season by the final score of 166-121.
Iona will next host their annual Alumni day event on Saturday, Oct. 14. The week following, the annual October Quad Invite with Sacred Heart, St. Francis and Wagner will take place at the Hynes Pool on Oct. 21.
Coach Nick Cavataro speaking on the weekend's meets that saw the Gaels take three of four: "We were much more aggressive today in our races and the results were better times and results. The key for us will be to continue this through our practices this month and into November and we will have a strong season."
